Writing Is the Best Way to Think
Learning, thinking, and practicing are the three sound ways to get things done. Reading serves learning; work is practice; writing is deep thinking — the ultimate craft of doing. Only systematic thinking makes one excellent in brutal competition, and writing is the best path to it.
Readership for WeChat articles has been declining. A key reason is the shortage of real depth; readers are tired of shallow takes. Good writing needs inspiration, material, and repeated revision. Authors who truly pursue depth cannot — and should not — meet the “daily update” unwritten rule of public accounts if they want to preserve quality.
Self‑publishing is first for oneself, then for readers. Unless writing is your livelihood, don’t obsess over view counts or posting daily. What sells best isn’t necessarily the best; only what stands the test of time becomes classic.
Some suggest free writing — let your mind roam and write wherever it goes — which can work for quick, lively thinkers. But if your aim is to strengthen logical expression or public speaking, write in one breath as if composing an exam essay. With consistency, rigorous thinking forms, and words come readily.
I often reread my old pieces. If they weren’t on my own blog, I might doubt I ever wrote them. Perhaps, at life’s end, revisiting one’s pages will feel like reading someone else’s story.
In the stillness of night: a cup of tea, a pen, a sheet of paper — how many affairs of past and present lie within a palm’s span. What joy.
